|| Bluesbunny Independent Music Reviews ||"Bless those voyeuristic Swedes. There's little they've done that they won't admit. Going by this artist's pseudonym and album title, he is perhaps best heard from a distance but let's expose him anyway. He won't mind. The mastermind behind this crudely titled album goes by the name of Pell. The brave (stupid?) lad exchanged the relative beauty of Stockholm for the squalor of London's East End. However, Pell's background is largely immaterial; does the album prick up our floppy ears? Part of the appeal of this album lies in its nakedness. Of course, the flipside of this is that it sounds like it may well have been recorded in the toilet of his East London flat. Whether or not you like your Swedish indie pop to be so bare, Pell's lyrics are deliberately naive and somehow tracks like "He Always Wear Waterproof Mascara" are hard to dislike. It's not even the novelty of the warbling Swede. It's just extremely likeable. Additional credit is due to Pell for writing "The Guinness Is Pale ('Cos Of All Our Falling Tears)". It's a hugely silly song but one that instantly jumped out at the Bluesbunny. Why? We like Guinness. If you're looking for the latest British pop sensation with the massive voice and sex appeal, this probably isn't the album for you. However, if you want some gaunt indie pop with burlesqued emotion, try this. You'll probably like it."

|| Indieville ||"Part Jandek, part Go-Betweens, part Anal Cunt's Picnic of Love album, The Odd Fiddler is just about as weird you can get with little more than a guitar and vocals. Well, that might be an overstatement, but these oddly-designed songs are triumphant bursts of out-of-tune vocals and equally unharmonious guitar parts. The result is unsettling but not incompetent - somehow, several of these songs have an alienated melodic quality. The overall impression is strongly reminiscent of The Shaggs in its idiosyncratic appeal. The best tracks are the haunting "Chewing Yr Bubblegum (Instead of Laughing at Me)" and "Pretty Please." These are the ones with deeply chiming, echoing guitars and eerie vocals. Some of the others are boring and grating ("Photographs Of?," "Very Gentle and Kind"). The Odd Fiddler has an unusual appeal that is pretty much the definition of hit or miss - his brashly tuneless vocals being the main culprit for this record's polarizing nature. Most listeners will consider this hackneyed and obnoxious, but to the daring lover of outsider music, I Wrote Yr Name on a Public Toilet will make for a rare and titillating treat. "

|| Enough Cowbell ||"I’m not even sure I like the Odd Fiddler, but Chewing Yr Bubblegum (Instead of Laughing At Me) is infectious. Everything about it is simple - the music, the childish lyrics (see: na na na)"

|| RetroLowFi ||"...led by a man merely named Pell. His brand of low fidelity charms can be highly reminiscent of the more fragmented Syd Barrett outtakes found on Opel, but is quite a bit more chorus-drenched and even a bit more sun-fried at times"

|| Fazer Online Music Magazine/Shawn Alexander Roy ||"...Heavily influenced by 80’s music and the Beach Boys, The Odd Fiddler deals with issues of death, morality, and lost love... The Odd Fiddler crafts songs as lyrically forceful as Daniel Johnston, Leonard Cohen , and Joy Division."

|| IndiePages ||"The last band on here is The Odd Fiddler, the only band not from Sweden (instead, they come from London) - let's just say that we never needed to leave the country..."
