hehe...was it by not numbering them or listing holland, dozier, and holland as pretty much one?

Both. And by including both Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook as separate songwriters, when everybody knows that they only do anything good together. Peter Hook's solo stuff is actually atrocious.

I was waiting for someone to mention them, even though they are a team and should therefore technically be disqualified.

Good lists, everyone ...I wanted to make one myself, but it would take me all day and work awaits. Oh well.

Oh no! I forgot to mention Stephin Merritt! How could I forget to mention Stephin Merritt?! :ack:

I'm probably going to have to just redo my list now.

I didn't know you like Momus! I sort of like him... well... let me put it this way...

Tender Pervert is a genius album from start to finish. It has to be one of the greatest albums ever. And "Bishonen" is one of the greatest songs ever. I love to listen to "Bishonen" and think about how my life is a failure and of no consequence because I haven't even tried to fight and give my life for some great cause. But yeah, so awesome.

I've never gotten into any other Momus stuff, though. Except for that "Robin Hood" song. That "Robin Hood" song is delightfully crazy.

Maybe because he sucks?
You subconsciously know it.

The latest album, Distortion, sucks for the most part, I'll give you that, but I think he's been relatively consistent and is a master of writing witty, yet emotionally-touching lyrics.

But the music is not on the same level as the lyrics, in my opinion.

Listen to i sometime. That was the first album where the Magnetic Fields restricted themselves from using synthesizers, and the music is definitely more sophisticated than their other stuff.

Ok. I do like the first album, but the deep voice on the other ones gets on my nerves.

That's one of the reasons I can't stand Beat Happening too. And Irene. Ok, the Irene guy's voice is not that deep, but it's grating to me.

Haha, I was wondering why Stephin was absent from your list, Eric!

Adriano, have you seen the Magnetic Fields perform live? I feel like that you'd sort of have to see them to appreciate it.. It's entirely simple and beautiful *using upright piano, whatever weird stringed instrument Stephen decides to play, and an acoustic guitar* and you really get a feel for how tastefully the songs are arranged. Truly gorgeous. Their discs, however are a whole other story for me. I can hardly get through one that isn't 69LS... I thought the Songs on Distortion were superb, but the production is torture. 45 minutes of feedback is difficult to withstand! Why try to emulate the sound of Psychocandy?
