Do you guys remember what you considered the best albums of the last 10 years. You're only allowed one album for each year. It can either be from 1998 to 2008 or 1997 to 2007 (2008 is still a long way to go).

I'm way too out of it to attempt my own list, but I'd love to hear from you guys.

Oh, wait, I have a vote for 2004.

I can easily look up the most recent years

2007: !!! - Myth Takes
2006: Love Is All - Nine Times The Same Song
2005: The National - Alligator
2004: Patrick Wolf - Lycanthropy

but I don't really remember earlier ones.

I've got a vote for 2004 as well.

I'll have to think long and hard about the other years, though.

No, you can't claim ignorance to avoid punishment.

Also because I'm releasing an album this year, hopefully.

I'd say we have very different tastes. VERY different.

Here's a very tentative and uninformed list:
1998 - Club 8 - The Friend I Once Had
1999 - Barcelona - Simon Basic
2000 - Beaumont - This is...
2001 - Birdie - Triple Echo
2002 - Acid House Kings - Advantage Acid House Kings
2003 - Postal Service - Give Up
2004 - Postal Blue - International Breeze :)
2005 - Clientele - Strange Geometry
2006 - Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out of This Country
2007 - Annemarie - ABC on tv
2008 - :)

I love Barcelona, Acid House Kings, Camera Obscura, and Annemarie (and I'd probably like that Postal Blue album if I heard it), but I wouldn't say those were the best albums of their respective years. But I'm just saying that maybe our tastes aren't THAT different.

Well, there were a few contenders for some of those, like The Fairways first album, Birdie's "Some Dusty", Go-Betweens' last onee, Skypark's "Summer Days Are Forever". I chose Annemarie because 2007 was a year I was completely out of touch, and barely listened to anything new. But I'd never pick any of the ones you chose either. Actually some of those I can't even stand. Maybe you have a broader taste than I have. I'm kind of a hardass.

Top Records to come out recently:
Vampire Weekend, Portishead, Radiohead, Aqueduct, Mates of State, Nada Surf... I'm too lazy to remember years and stuff...

Oh, man. TEN years? That would include listing albums before my indie awakening. So be it. I've always made and kept a year-end list since I've been able to write. I really wish that the Dismemberment Plan's Emergency & I was on the 1999 line below, and Spoon's Kill the Moonlight in 2002, but alas, they're not. I can't change the past. Especially not on a semi-anonymous message board. :)

And now, here is the cold, hard truth:

1999 > Smash Mouth - Astro Lounge
2000 > Radiohead - Kid A
2001 > R.E.M. - Reveal
2002 > Home Town Hero - Home Town Hero

2003 > The New Pornographers - The Electric Version
2004 > Of Montreal - Satanic Panic in the Attic
2005 > Stars - Set Yourself on Fire
2006 > Starlight Mints - Drowaton
2007 > Immaculate Machine - Fables
2008 > Mexican Kids at Home - When We All Live in Igloos

* Albums were my favorite as of December 31 of each year. 2008 likely won't change.

You can put them in there! There's nothing in the rules of the thread that says you have to put whatever you actually listened to in that year. I wouldn't be able to put NMH in there for '98 if that was so.

So, put your real favorites in there.

Oh, and you actually liked Reveal? I never got to hear it, but I keep hearing that it really sucks.
